Description

Des Indes Villas comprises two stunning new villas quietly tucked away within Seminyak’s exclusive Laksmana Estate, moments from the surfing beach of Petitenget and some of Bali’s most iconic restaurants and bars.  A fusion of Bali-style open living and contemporary Asian design, the two interlinking villas each have their own entrance, swimming pool and living area as well as air-conditioned bedrooms and bathrooms.  They can be booked separately or together, offering the versatility of a two-, three- or five-bedroom villa vacation – well suited for multi-generation families or groups of friends who appreciate both space and privacy.

ABOUT DES INDES VILLAS

Des Indes II and Des Indes III are an exceptional pair of fully staffed pool villas within the ultra-elite Laksmana Estate in the heart of Seminyak, moments from Petitenget Beach.

Named after Holland’s legendary Hotel Des Indes, this inter-connecting pair comprises two sets of vaulted pavilions arranged around inviting swimming pools and divided by a wall of double doors and pivoting plantation shutters that can be opened up when both villas are rented together or closed off for complete privacy.

A wealth of natural materials features in the design – teakwood-lined ceilings and floors, Palimanan stone reliefs, wall panels of padded linen, bathrooms of Italian marble.  Every room is richly decorated with colonial-style furniture, prized antiques, precious Asian ceramics and artefacts, and oriental rugs.  Among the more contemporary luxuries are top-range King Koil mattresses, crisp cotton bed-linen, and curved 47-inch TVs with satellite channels in every bedroom.

Pick up one of the many books lying around, and retreat to the antique daybed in Des Indes II or the poolside balé in Des Indes III.  Take a siesta on a sun lounger then cool off in the pool.  Take a leisurely stroll to Ku De Ta for sunset cocktails, and dine at La Lucciola across the road, or return to the villa for a gourmet meal created by your accomplished chef.  Then retreat to the air-conditioned comfort of your spacious bedroom, sink into a petal-strewn bathtub and finally retire to your four-poster bed. Repeat the next day.

With the beach, boutiques, restaurants, bars and spas of Seminyak just moments away, families and groups of friends will find Des Indes Villas the perfect choice for their Bali vacation.

VILLA LAYOUT

From Des Indes II’s bright red iron-studded door, steps across a small pond lead into an open-sided living area then onto a covered poolside dining pergola and second seating area.  Behind the living area is the master bedroom pavilion opening onto the length of the pool terrace, facing the guest bedroom pavilion on the other side.  Plantation shutters and a set of three doors run the width of the living areas and divide Des Indes II from Des Indes III.  These can be closed off for privacy or opened when both villas are rented together.

LIVING AREAS

A deeply cushioned daybed is the focus of the fan-cooled living area, an open-sided space defined by a striking floor of traditional patterned tiles, and decorated with antique Indonesian furniture and artefacts.  Opposite is another living corner, where a pair of antique armchairs is set before a peaceful Buddha.  From both areas, plantation shutters open onto the pool or koi ponds of Des Indes III (but may be closed off for privacy).  In between is a covered poolside dining area with marble-topped dining table for four.

BEDROOMS

Master suite
Under a vaulted teakwood-lined roof rises a magnificent four-poster bed swathed in mosquito netting.  Colonial-style furniture, antique porcelain and oriental rugs enrich this air-conditioned master suite – even the ultra-modern 47-inch curved TV has a magnificent backdrop, set before an ornately carved mirror-backed geometric panel.  The bathroom is just as beautifully decorated, with a dressing area, bathtub framed within a garden alcove, twin basins, and walk-in shower enclosure with pool view.

Guest suite
The air-conditioned guest pavilion also looks out over the pool, with extra-wide sliding glass doors opening onto the terrace and, when the plantation shutters are open, a view across the pool of Des Indes III.  Twin beds (that join to create a king-size bed if preferred) rest under a towering mosquito net on an over-sized platform.  An antique-style rocking chair is perfect for watching movies on the 43-inch satellite TV, and beyond a linen-padded wall lies a dressing area with wardrobe, and a bathroom with bathtub, large shower enclosure and twin basins.

FAMILIES

Villa holidays are an excellent option for families, with access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want.  Knowing that the kids can enjoy themselves independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus – and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

Des Indes Villas is particularly suitable for a couple of families holidaying together, who can take both II and III to enjoy social time tempered by some extra private space.  Those with toddlers will need to be vigilant, however, due to the unfenced swimming pools and ponds (though it is easy to keep an eye on children from the comfort of the living area).

The staff will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will be happy to do this for you – just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest.

Don’t worry about packing all that cumbersome kids’ equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don’t have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot, highchair, car seat and games) we can hire on your behalf (click here to see list of available hire items).

And when the excitement of exploring the villa starts to wear off, check out our Things to do page – there’s plenty in the area to keep all the family amused throughout the holiday.

THINGS TO DO

Des Indes Villas’ manager will have a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required.  Chat to the staff too; many have been attached to the villa for some time and are a great source of insider information.

In the meantime, here’s a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of the villa.

  1. Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hot-foot it down to Seminyak, Bali’s most cosmopolitan enclave.  Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of stylish, chic boutiques.  There is a wide choice of fine dining, mid range, and cheap ‘n cheerful restaurants in Seminyak too:  fine dining venues include Sarong, the famous Ku Dé Ta, Mama San, La Lucciola, Petitenget, Merah Putih, Sardine and Métis.
  2. It’s possible to walk the sands of Seminyak’s Petitenget Beach all the way to Kuta in the south, or north to Canggu.  The beach is more popular with locals than tourists (not safe for swimming in most sections), but is a great spot for building sandcastles or to watch the sunset as you sip a cocktail from one of the many beachside bars.
  3. A nice sunset alternative is to head down to Echo Beach (11km) where a number of cafes offer good sunset views and cold beer.  Note that the beach here is dark sand and the waters are better suited to surfing, having a pronounced swell and rip, rather than children’s swimming.  Hotel Tugu, a very stylish and eclectic boutique hotel a few minutes further down the coast is also a good sunset spot, or try the more casual café across the road; Old Man’s for alfresco all day dining
  4. Des Indes Villas is close to the famous temple at Tanah Lot (16 km), although in peak season a few too many tourists may transform a sunset visit into more of a heaving photo opportunity than a moving experience.  Visiting early in the morning (8-9am) provides a better idea of the power of the location and the chance to see it undisturbed apart from perhaps an offering ceremony.
  5. Play a round at the unbelievably scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Course.  Bordered by ocean and rice fields and just down from Tanah Lot sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course (designed by golf legend, Greg Norman) is frequently voted number one in Asia.
  6. Drive westwards to explore the charming Tabanan regency, revealing terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities.  Or head north to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu – one of Bali’s most important temples.
  7. Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Balihas 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart.  A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.
  8. Bali Treetop Adventure Park is near the town of Bedugal in northern central Bali (next to Lake Bratan).  Five adventure circuits, with heights ranging from two to 20 metres, challenge all level and ages on suspended bridges, spider nets, Tarzan jumps and 12 flying foxes.
