Villa Vajra is a stunning 3-bedroom luxury villa designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Guy Morgan. It offers luxurious accommodation in a dramatic setting that embraces the natural surroundings. The villa is nestled in landscaped gardens that blend seamlessly with the slopes of a river valley gorge, creating a tranquil and harmonious environment.
Approaching the villa, guests are greeted by a raised wooden walkway that meanders through undisturbed rice fields, providing a serene and captivating entrance. The villa’s design is a testament to its commitment to preserving the integrity of the island, with features such as an organic wastewater garden and the use of organic natural foods whenever possible. Energy-saving policies are also discussed with guests upon arrival.
The construction of Villa Vajra utilizes the highest quality local materials, including ‘alang alang’ thatch, marble, Palimanan stone, and teak wood, blending traditional Balinese architectural elements with contemporary flair, elegant finishes, and modern amenities. The villa offers both indoor air-conditioned comfort and the epitome of outdoor living.
The villa features a collection of works by local artists, celebrating Ubud’s central place in Balinese culture and the arts. The upper level of the villa includes a lotus pond and pergola, with a serene Buddha statue overlooking the pond. A small painting gallery and the Sawah bedroom are also located on this level. A plaza shaded by white plumerias offers sunset viewing, and a separate thatched pavilion provides a tranquil space for rest, contemplation, meditation, or yoga. The villa also includes designated areas for yoga, meditation, massage, and gym workouts, as well as parking space for six vehicles.
Living Areas
Accessed by a floating staircase from the pond level is the elegant spacious Living-Dining pavilion. It is only on reaching this lower level that the unique architectural design of the villa can be appreciated. It stands three stories high beneath a vaulted, intricately designed thatched roof supported by coconut wood pillars on stone plinths.
Furnished with comfortable teak chairs and sofas, pendulous lanterns illuminate a large mahogany dining table. It is also a fantastic venue for parties, receptions and functions as well as quiet, peaceful living room. The adjoining semi-circular timber deck overhangs the lush river valley; living jackfruit trees grow through holes cut in the deck floor, a stylish sensitive way to preserve the original forest plantings, an architectural tour de force blending style with nature.
Bedrooms
All bedrooms feature individually controlled air-conditioning units as well as ceiling fans to keep the rooms pleasantly cool. There are telephone lines for IDD and in-house calls in each room, as well as individual safety deposit boxes.
Across the lotus pond stands the Study. It serves both as a media room with TV, DVD player and film library and quality sound system with speakers throughout the villa and gardens. This room also doubles as an additional bedroom with an en-suite shower/bathroom on its private viewing terrace. An expansive cathedral window in front of the built-in desk offers a surprisingly dramatic view of the living and dining areas below.
