Individualbali.com – Bali is an island called the “Island of a Thousand Temples” or “Island of the Gods” because the majority of the Balinese are Hindus. Therefore, there are many Hindu celebrations in Bali, one of which is Pagerwesi.
Pagerwesi Day falls every Wednesday Kliwon Wuku Sinta. This day is celebrated to honor Ida Sanghyang Widhi Wasa with his manifestation as Sanghyang Pramesti Guru (God as teacher of the universe).
Talking about Pagerwesi, there are many interpretations about the meaning of pagerwesui. Some say it comes from two words, pager/pagar which means sturdy and wesi/iron or strong. However, in the Sundarigama Lontar it is explained, Pagerwesi is a worship of Lord Shiva in his manifestation as Sang Hyang Pramesti Guru. Why glorify teachers? Because the teacher has a noble function as a guide.
So it can be said that Pagerwesi is a day related to knowledge passed down through teachers. Knowledge flows, institutionalizes in the process of realizing the universe. The teacher who must in this case is the chess teacher. Guru Rupaka (parents), Teacher Recitation (teacher at school), Guru Wisesa (government) and Guru Swadyaya (Ida Sang Hyang Widhi).
So being able to confirm its true meaning is a reminder that humans living in this world have a firm faith, which is based on the use of science on the road. Without knowledge, humanity will return to the shadow age, where everything is very difficult to do.
