Villa Bougainvillea is a fully staffed four-bedroom (3 stand-alone sleeping pavilions & 1 mezzanine room with private bathroom) Balinese masterpiece, designed by GKA (responsible for the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay and the Maldives Spa), located in the Pangi River Village complex in the village of Pererenan, on Bali’s west coast.
The extraordinary 10-meter-high open-plan living/dining area is the centerpiece of this tranquil Balinese oasis. Decorated in Dutch colonial/Balinese style, all furniture is made from solid teak, with most pieces being carved Indonesian antiques, adorned with hand-made cushions and pillows in striking hues.
The landscape and scenery make Villa Bougainvillea arguably one of Bali’s most beautiful villas. With its 13-meter green stone private pool, large flowering gardens, beautiful established trees along the Pangi River, and views over the lush rice fields of Canggu, it perfectly reflects the beauty and serenity of Bali while being in Bali’s hippest area, Pererenan.
Bedrooms
Each of the three stand-alone air-conditioned pavilion bedrooms is decorated in a different color scheme with beautiful Indonesian batik hangings on the walls, along with masks and other indigenous artworks. Each bedroom includes a king-size bed, a balcony overlooking the gardens, a spacious ensuite bathroom, and a private courtyard with an outdoor shower. The 4th bedroom is in the mezzanine area above the TV room/library with a separate private bathroom.
Canggu Location
Villa Bougainvillea is located in an area called Canggu in the village of Pererenan, which is Bali’s hippest scene, about 20 minutes north of Seminyak and halfway to Tanah Lot. Canggu is widely used to refer to a large coastal stretch of about eight kilometers, running north from the village of Brawa (just north of Seminyak) to the village of Cemagi (just south of Tanah Lot) taking in Echo Beach, Seseh, and Pererenan along the way. (Technically, Bougainvillea is situated in the village of Pererenan.)
Canggu/Pererenan is now renowned for its restaurants, beachside bars/clubs, shopping, and “wellness’ services together with beautiful black sand beaches, perfect for a dip or surf.
The beaches in this area have dark grey or black sand and while being good for swimming, they also offer some renowned and challenging surfing spots.
For surfing enthusiasts, Brawa Beach on the south side of Echo Beach, Echo Beach itself, and Pererenan… are all excellent spots for surfing.
For sunset lovers, nothing can beat sunset cocktails along Echo Beach (less than 10 minutes away), at places like La Brisa, Como Hotel, Electric Eel, among numerous others.
Close by in Seminyak (20 minutes away), you might also want to explore some of Bali’s hippest boutiques for shopping and then indulge in the upscale nightlife in the clubs and bars on Jalan Oberoi and Jalan Petitenget.
For those desiring a little exercise and stretching their legs outside the villa, Tanah Lot, a famous local Balinese temple on the beach is a short drive away. In addition, there are numerous beautiful waterfalls, temples, rice paddies, etc., to see all within 30 – 60 minutes’ drive.
There are vast areas of rice paddies with quietly undulating terrain offering expansive views of the volcanic mountains to the north and northeast and to the south across Jimbaran Bay to Bali’s southernmost peninsula, called the Bukit.
